Giving to Others

These days in our life on this planet, so much is happening to add stress to our lives. I don't want to add to that so I won't make a list...cause you already know...but here is something encouraging. In Denver, there is a Ministry that gives to the homeless in our community. St. Francis Center, which is celebrating 25 years of helping our community, offers assistance during the day. It offers things that folks without a home generally don't have access to: a place to use as an address for job applications, a place to receive mail and phone calls, a place to get a shower and some clean clothes...a place to be recognized and called by name...the list goes on.

My husband and I saved our extra pennies this year, bought a table to attend their Silver Anniversary Gala and invited some friends to join us. Although we invited everyone through a phone call, we also wanted to send a formal invitation. So that's what I'm sharing today.

So during these challenging times, maybe you can think of something you can do to give to someone who needs it even more than we do...then share that work with me or with others.

Missing in Action? No, just on vacay and trying to catch up after CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) Trade Show for the summer.

Just thought I'd add up a few pages that I've created lately.

The first "Sweet Friends" is a page that because of a challenge at ScrapFriends, I painted the background. It was a paper that I might not have used otherwise. I love how the Paisley Nestabilities made a fun title and then the Decorative Paisley echoes the design. FUN.

It was fun creating a layout that features one of the Nation's leading symbols: Lady Liberty...but, in colors other than what you might expect: red, white and blue! Try Turquoise, Lavender and Periwinkle...The Star 5 die from Spellbinders was great to work with. I just cut a "whole bunch" of them and then worked out a nice layout. I used a sketch from Blueprints for the layout inspiration.

The time for weddings, anniversaries, parties, celebrations, graduations, et al...We just went to a wedding of a young man we've known for 14 years. Seeing him and his lovely bride was inspiring. I have hope that some day, my daughter will meet, fall in love and marry someone of his calibur, his family's strength and faith. So refreshing.

Here is a close up of the card that I created for them:

You can see some of the embossing at the edges of the leaves, ribbon and dots.

I used Spellbinders wreath die (S4 104) to emboss Mr Ellie Pooh paper. Misting the paper with Paper Glide on the paper before running it though can help with the embossing.

After embossing, use a paintbrush to apply white paint. If desired, mix in a tiny bit of chalk pastels into dry brush efore painting.
Give the ribbon just a touch of color by painting the raised/embossed areas. Use the non-brush end, dipped in paint to add the berry accents.
Finally choose 2 green shades of Copic Sketch markers and gently color the leaves. Finally stamp the wedding date in the center using Ranger' Distress Ink in Tattered Rose.
Using photo corners by 3L, mat the card onto metallic white and then onto silver paper by Prism. Trim the paper to allow one inch of paper on the right side as shown.
Stamp the word forever onto the extra right hand side of the card front.

National Scrapbooking Day!

I spent some time over at www.scrapfriends.us for the celebration of National Scrapbooking Day. What fun. Bolstered by inspirational challenges, I created these layouts.

Easter Love was a doodling challenge. I sketched Easter in pencil and then had my way with the Copic Markers. Added a little extra something with Fancy Pants felt word and the title was born.

Got scallops? These were easy. Draw a line under the photo. Using small dots or hash-marks (in pencil) mark the line in half, and then each half in thirds. Then create the curves by drawing from mark to mark...Voila, Scallops! Our natural ability to make them all slightly different simply adds to the charm.

Add photos and meaningful journaling...so 20 years from now, your kids will have a frame of reference that will trigger those wonderful growing-up-years emotions.

What or who is
Frizzy Lizzy Frumple Dumple?

Well, that was my nickname when I was a little girl. My mom made it up and I held on to part of that ("Friz" or "Frizzy") most of my life. I think it speaks to my zest for life, enjoyment of whimsy, my love of creating and my devotion to verbage. Playing with words. Writing...I know, it's a strange one. But there you have it: Frizzy Lizzy Frumple Dumple comes home again to play with a Blog, share images, stories, pics, artwork, etc. Who knows how it will evolve....
